Eau des Merveilles Bleue, a fragrance that smells of the sea

Like a dive into a wonderful world, it was in 2012 that the Hermès house began to draw us into the heart of Amber of Wonders. Her perfume was then described as a “mysterious resin emerging from the depths of time and the bowels of the earth”. Also, following this first perfume, Hermès developed the Elixir des Merveilles. Ever more bewitching, this perfume seemed to push the limits of dreaminess to their paroxysm. As if to extend the enchantment of this collection, Hermès is offering us its brand new Eau des Merveilles Bleue . This juice is by far the most maritime of all …

Christine Nagel’s maritime inspiration

Born in Geneva, Christine Nagel is a renowned perfumer whose career has been marked by multiple awards: a Fifi Awards in 2005, a François Coty Prize in 2008…

And above all, the consecration: an exclusive perfumer position for the Hermès house, in 2014! Indeed, it is she whom Hermès has chosen to succeed the talented Jean-Claude Ellena. Cartesian and instinctive, this one is characterized by its irrepressible desire for freedom. Moreover, this is precisely what we feel in the Eau des Merveilles Bleue fragrance.

Since the launch of L’Ambre des Merveilles, Hermès has liked to assimilate its collection to a wonder similar to that of our fondest childhood memories. It is therefore at the border between childhood dreams and femininity that Christine Nagel has placed herself to make this new juice. She remembered her childhood at the sea. Have you ever seen the eyes of a child filled with stars when he discovers this bluish expanse for the first time? “I was amazed by the pebbles wet by the sea,” says Christine Nagel.

They had a particular color and shine and I discovered a salty, mineral taste in them. It is therefore from this memory that the Eau des Merveilles Bleue perfume was developed. This is an invitation to dream, a kind of ocean the color of the sky.

The scent of the blue water of Wonders

Eau des Merveilles Bleue is a fragrance with a fairly simple recipe mainly revolving around three main ingredients. The idea was to develop a recipe that is both woody and mineral, as if tickled by the sea spray but warmed at the bottom by a more solar and comforting presence. Thus, logically, the Eau des Merveilles Bleue contains a marine accord. This gives a real boost of freshness to this fragrance. As a result, Eau des Merveilles Bleue is an appreciable fragrance in all seasons, including on hot summer days.

Woody nuances give structure to this fragrance and give it more capacity. Thus, the Blue Water of Wonders appears to be a subtle link between the sea and the land. From then on, all that was missing was one final ingredient to bind everything together and give it a more velvety and determined warmth. It was done with patchouli. This also gives a profound elegance to the Eau des Merveilles Bleue.
